2019 Los Angeles Young Musician International Competition Rules:

Piano Concerto / Piano Duet/Duo Competition Rules

 

The 2019 Los Angeles Young Musicians International Competition is open to young pianists of any nationality, age up to 28. The first prize winners of previous Los Angeles Young Musicians International Competitions or Los Angeles International Piano Competitions are ineligible to participate in the same categories of the Competition.

 

1. APPLICATION

The complete application form and all required documents should be postmarked by June 30, 2019. Applications are not considered complete until all documents and fees have been received by the administration of the competition. The application fees is $100 for Piano Concerto/Piano Duet/Duo categories A, B, C, D. The application fee is non-refundable.

 

2. COMPETITION CATEGORIES

The 2019 Piano Concerto/ Piano Duet/Duo Competition has four categories.

A. Up to 8 years of age
B. 9-12 years of age
C. 13-15 years of age
D. 16-18 years of age

Age category is determined by the eldest pianist contestant.

The contestants in each category must be of qualifying age on August 1, 2019.

With your application form, you must submit one copy of a proof of age document (passport or other legal document) and two current photos .

 

3. COMPETITION ROUND FOR CATEGORIES A, B, C, D.

The 2019 Piano Concerto/Piano Duet/Duo Competition consists of a Final live competition round.

List of applicants who entered the final round will be posted on the website.

Accepted applicants should come to the opening ceremony on August 2, 2019 to listen to the important announcement and draw a number to choose their own order of performance.

All winners must be present at the Award Ceremony and Winners Concert in order to receive the awards.

 

4. REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

A, up to 8 years of age,

Performance time limited: 12 Minutes

One round: live competition round

Free choice from the standard repertoire including one or more movements of one music piece (Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary)

 

B, 9-12 years of age,

Performance time limited: 15 Minutes

One Round: live competition round

Free choice from the standard repertoire including one or more movements of one music piece (Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary)

 

C, 13-15 years of age,

Performance time limited: 20 Minutes

One Round: live competition round

Free choice from the standard repertoire including more than one movements of one music piece (Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary)

 

D, 16-18 years of age,

Performance time limited: 25-35 Minutes

One Round: live competition round

Free choice from the standard repertoire including movements of one music piece (Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary)

5. INTERNATIONAL CONTESTANTS

International applicants should consult with the nearest American Embassy or Consulate for visas. The Los Angeles Young Musician International Competition will send an official letter of invitation. The official invitation letter will be sent via e-mail, and the original copy will be sent by regular mail. Express mail can be requested for an additional $30. The official letters will only be provided to the applicant after his or her application has been completed and accepted.

 

6. JURY

The jury has the right to stop the contestants during the performance if the playing time is expanded or in any other necessary cases.

Jury members will disclose the information of the competitors who have studied with them in the past five years or who are going to study with them following the competition. Jury members will be asked to recuse themselves not submitting a score for those students, which is appropriately in order to maintain the integrity of the voting process.

The decisions of the jury on the Final round will be final.

 

7. WINNER'S AWARDS

All winners of the Los Angeles Young Musician International Competitions must be present in the Awards Ceremony and Winners Concert in order to receive the awards.

The first prize winner in each category will perform in the Winner's Concert.
